The genesis of “NUPI” stemmed from the need to modernise traditional wear to stay relevant in the lives of today’s upwardly mobile, fashionable yet comfort-oriented women who are well-heeled and stylish, lest it becomes obsolete and disappears completely. Add to it the opportunities of bringing our indigenous art-forms and unique creative opuses to life to cater to a much larger audience – our beautiful handloom and hand-printed fabrics being used in making Indian Ethnic-Wear as well as Western-Wear… Amalgamating indigenous works of art and design into mainstream fashion world.

We believe in the fact that just as European Womenswear evolved from huge layered gowns (highly uncomfortable and impractical) into modern day fashionable yet practical dresses/blouses/skirts/trousers etc. our traditional wear also needs to evolve with the changing times by incorporating practical, modern, contemporary nuances to it as well as by creating mainstream fashion products with it.

At NUPI we embrace the idea of FREEDOM in everything we do – especially the elevated sense of “FREEDOM” one experiences when one chooses to wear our line of clothing that delivers “uninterrupted comfort” to fit ALL BODY TYPES regardless of SIZES owing to the way we construct and design our apparels.

NUPI has been conceptualised to bring to life the creativity of the people of North East India onto the global fashion map by incorporating the handloom, handicrafts, prints, tribal motifs and unique creative skills of the women of this region. 

Our products are attentively designed and hand-printed, hand-knitted, hand crocheted by skilled women of North-East India for whom the brand has served as a source of income. For every NUPI product you shop/buy, you are indirectly helping a North-Eastern Indian woman earn a decent additional income aiding her to become financially independent.
